There has been a Castle at Porchester since the Romans first built a fort on the site in 280ad.

Over the following centuries it was redesigned many times, In 1066 following the Norman Conquest an important castle was built on the site

its main buildings were built in an enclosure in the north west corner of the old Roman Fort.

Some of the buildings that remain today are the twelth century great tower, and a royal residence that was built in the 1390s for Richard II.

The castle remained inhabited untill the 17th century, it was then used as a Prisoner of war camp until the end of the Napoleonic Wars when there were 3,000 prisoners of war housed in the main tower or keep,Today the site is Owned and looked after by English Heriatge.

There are many Ghost Stories and sightings connected to the castle,One in particular is that of the grey lady who is seen falling from the Keep, and a Lady in white who is seen running from the shore nr the castle back to the castle, her dress coverd in blood.

We have visited the castle many times, on one visit we contacted a spirit called Charolte White (who many beleive to be the Grey Lady who is seen falling from the tower)

We also managed to capture an EVP of her (which was unfortunately lost in a computer crash) Hayley was standing in the keep asking if Charlote was around and what it was like in the castle etc, when we played the recording back later there was a female voice on the tape saying "It's so cold".

This is definately a site where we would like to carry out a night investigation.
