Racton Ruins (West Sussex)
Racton Monument is a ruined tower built on a beautiful small hill south of Lordington House near Funtington. Theodosius Keene, himself the son of a distinguished architect, is thought to have designed the eighty foot high tower as an adornment of the nearby estate at Stansted House. Built in 1772 it's hard to say what the folly was for.
Many think that Racton Ruins is one of the most frightening haunted places in West Sussex.
There are plenty of reports of spooky comings and goings, bricks being thrown from the top of the unstable tower, a ghostly woman appearing and other spectral beings. The myths surrounding the use of the tower by smugglers and the general decay of the ruins add to the Blair Witch project type feel of the place.
There are also reports of people being touched by unseen hands, or hearing voices whispering in the darkness beside them. The Old tower has an even more sisnister side to it as there are reports of Satanaism and Witchcraft being carried out at the site. Most recent sign of Witchcraft was found at the Ruins in 2007.
To date this location is the only one that we have left within 20 minutes of arriving.
This may be a fairly nice location on a bright summers day, but at night it is very different,we drove down the small track leading to the ruins, stepped out of the car and all of us were instantly aware of a very nasty threatning atmsophere surrounding the whole place.
We did manage to get over the small ditch just outside the ruins, but the atmosphere just got worse the closer we went,so we decided to call it a night and went back to the car.
On looking at the photos we had taken at the location we found a very large orb in the window on the second floor, and also found what appears to be a hanging figure in another photo.
