Titchfield Village was a major trading port in its heyday, connected to the sea by a canal, some of which you can still find today if you follow the river walk towards Hill Head.
Nowadays it is a quiet picturesque village just off the A27,But it hides a Violent Murderous past in a small green on the corner of South Street & West Street.
In the 1890's (where the Green is now) there used to be cottages, they were 2-8 West Street and 1-3 South Street.
It is in one of these cottages that a woman called Alice Hinton lived with her family, she was well known in the village for her family rifts. She had a continuing bad reputation for troublesome family relationships.
Until finally on the 16th November 1891 she murderd her three small children,After the murder of her children, the corner of West street acquired a terrible stigma and there were claims of ghosts haunting the cottages.
After a period of suspicion and neglect the properties were bought by an American and Moved Brick by Brick to Ropley.
If you sit on the bench on the green there is still a feeling of sadness surounding the area and orbs are often seen in the area.
Another area of the village where sightings occour is St Margrets lane where the ghost of a Lady in White is often seen drifting across the road.
On the next page you will find the lyrics from a song
all about Alice Hinton and the Murder she commited.
