Whiteley Woods (Whiteley, Hampshire)

Round Copice
Round Copice

Whiteley Woods used to cover a much larger area than it does nowadays as a lot of it was cut down to build Whiteley Village.

It was once part of the Ancient Forrest Of Bere dating back over 200 years.

There are now 3 copices in Whiteley they are

Gull Coppice, Round coppice & Berrey Coppice

Of the three remaining woods we have so far visited

Gull Copice and Round Copice which are now conservation areas

they are worth a visit as both are fairly active,

and we hope to be checking out Berrey Coppice this year.

It is worth visiting the woods during the day first so you can find the main footpaths thru the woods

because as you can imagine it is a lot different walking round them at night.

This is especially true for the larger of the two copices Gull Copice,

as we ourselves got lost on the first night visit

and ended up walking quite a long way trying to find our way back to the car.

Mike and one of his freinds had an interesting experience on a night vist to the smaller of the copices,(Round Coppice)

It was about 2:30 am, Myself and a freind were walking in Round copice taking photos and chatting, when we stoped in a clearing.

I was standing in front of my freind looking ahead of us, my freind was about 3 feet behind me looking behind us, when we both had the same strange feeling that we were not alone, we turned to face each other and standing in the space between us was a figure of a person about 5ft tall, it was only there for about five seconds before it faded, we were both dumbstruck and both asked at the same time "did you see that".

We carried on round the woods but for the rest of the time there we had a feeling that we were being followed and watched.

we will definately be going back for more visits..
